5/3: Sock Hop! We Need Your Help!: We need the help of parents who are doctors or who know a good deal about digestive health (due to a chronic condition etc.) We would love for you to come visit and share during our Digestive System Project Based Learning Unit we will be doing from May 6th - May 17th. Math Extensions: This week we finished up our Math Expressions curriculum! We will be doing 2 weeks of math extensions: math building, math puzzles, math art, and Rubik's cubes! Our goal is for kids to see math everywhere - not just in a pen to paper algorithm. Save the Date for an End of Year Picnic: On Wednesday, May 22nd from 9:30-12:00 we will be walking to Scott Carpenter Park to enjoy a picnic and some playtime. Let's hope for good weather! Homework: Each and every day: 30 minutes of reading from a "just right" book! Monday: Draw a picture to share with your class :) Tuesday: Help with dinner (and/or clean up after dinner!) :) Wednesday: Clean your room :) Thursday: Listen to classical music :) Important Dates:

Poem in Your Pocket Day: On Thursday we celebrated Poem in Your Pocket Day! The kids had so much fun sharing their poems and carrying them around. 4/12 and 4/15: NO SCHOOL Science Biographies: In Science we are switching gears to learn about 4 famous scientists: Florence Nightingale, Anton van Leeuwenhoek, Elijah McCoy, and Daniel Hale Williams. Ancient China and India: In Social Studies the kids are learning about other ancient civilizations to piggyback on our Ancient Greece unit. They will learn about the geography, religions, and philosophies of these civilizations. Poetry: This week we had a guest poet, Erin Robertson, come in to share about her career as a poet and to write with the kids. The kids all wrote a poem that we will carry in our pockets next Thursday for the national "poem in your pocket day!" Homework: Each and every day: 30 minutes of reading from a "just right" book! Monday: NO SCHOOL Tuesday: 7-2 continued Wednesday: Play a game of War, Uno, SkipBo, Phase 10 or any other strategy game your family loves. Thursday: 7-3 Important Dates:
4/12 and 4/15: NO SCHOOL Healthy Living: This week and next we are covering the Health standards in Science. Please continue to talk with your child about healthy food choices, exercise, limiting screen time, fire safety, and tobacco prevention. We will cover all of these items briefly, but kids might need more time to process what they are learning at home. Ancient China and India: In Social Studies the kids are learning about other ancient civilizations to piggyback on our Ancient Greece unit. They will learn about the geography, religions, and philosophies of these civilizations. Math Unit 7: We will begin Unit 7 next week where we will focus on area, perimeter, arrays, and fractions. Poetry: In writing, the kids are becoming poets. They are writing about strong feelings with concrete details. We have a guest poet coming next week to help support our writing.
