The Fountas and Pinnell Classroom is our core curriculum for reading. Reading is taught within a workshop model. During the workshop, students receive whole group strategic instruction, followed by independent practice and small group instruction tailored to student needs. Within our workshop, students have the ability to makes choices with their independent reading selections. Spelling and grammar instruction are both explicitly taught and embedded within the program. Throughout the workshop, students have the opportunity to share the thinking and strategies they used with their classmates. They build upon their literacy foundation by exploring fluency strategies with more challenging texts. Students explore a variety of genres and deepen their comprehension beyond literal interpretation to inferential comprehension and literary analysis.
